Emanuele Sparacino
Modica, Sicily, Italy
After spending his childhood and youth in Emilia Romagna, in 2012, migrating in the opposite direction to his father, Emanuele, he returned to Sicily with the aim of preserving his grandparents' two plots of land from abandonment and possible wild urbanisation.
Thinking about joint projects with others becomes necessary to imagine the future: for this reason he was one of the first to believe in the Filiereque Iblee network and to want it to be created.
His company includes approximately 4 hectares divided into two plots around Noto, cultivated with almonds, olive trees and citrus fruits, mainly lemons. There are various fruit trees, according to the classic cultivations of this area which maintained a rich biodiversity, also for self-consumption: quinces, mulberries, black cherries, figs, prickly pears, carobs, together with spontaneous plants (capers, rowan and strawberry tree). Emanuele has also planted a small cultivation of saffron and aromatic herbs.
In the management of the funds, mechanical work has been reduced to a minimum, preferring green manure and mowing.
The land is certified organic by ICEA, as no chemical substances have ever been used, as the grandparents remained faithful to the maxim: " poi ti manci a sa comu va a finre " (i.e.: " then you eat them and who knows how it ends up finish" ).
Emanuele Sparacino is part of the Filiereque Iblee Project.
